Overview

This position will lead, organize, and implement all junior golf programming. The Junior Golf Leader will
assist the Director of Instruction and Player Development Leader with the implementation of various
golf instruction programs at Boar’s Head Resort while providing professional instruction, including:
private golf lessons, adult programs, group clinics, classes, club fittings and TrackMan simulator sessions.
The Junior Golf Leader will assist with special events and operations as needed.


Work Environment

Work 80% of the time outdoors on/in Birdwood’s practice facilities, Swing Studio, UVA Golf
Performance Center and/or on course teaching golf. Work 20% of the time indoors performing Boar’s
Head Golf Academy administrative tasks, promotions/marketing functions, assisting with groups, special
events and golf operations.


Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and lead all junior golf programs, including but not limited to: Op36 Junior Program, Birdwood Junior Camps, Boar’s Head All Sports Camp, Future 36ers, PGA Jr. League, etc.
  • Assist the Director of Instruction and Player Development Leader with the development of programming designed to attract new and existing golfers
  • Assist with the implementation of men’s and women’s instructional programs; clinics and classes, individual lessons, and Swing Studio sessions
  • Point person and liaison for UVA Men’s Junior Camps, UVA Women’s Junior Camps, and First Tee
  • Give personal instruction as needed to existing clients and as directed by the Director of Instruction
  • Report all instruction and ensure all lessons, camps, and clinics are accurately run through point of sale system
  • Help to monitor training aids, video equipment, launch monitors, etc. to ensure all are up to-date and in good working order
  • Support golf staff and the Director of Instruction in maintaining, managing availability, and daily organization of practice facilities

Knowledge, Skills and Traits

  • Maintain or pursue LPGA/PGA of America membership or equivalent classification
  • Fundamental knowledge of golf instruction, teaching technology, and fundamentals of the swing
  • Attend industry conferences, workshops, and meetings to sustain knowledge of industry trends
  • Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations
  • Act as a role model for all team members by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all team members
  • Service and guest focused attitude adhering to Forbes standards in every interaction
  • Experienced in written and oral business communications
  • Proficient with performing tasks utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail
  • Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community


Qualifications

Essential:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in golf
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Proficient in each of the following: teaching, using technology, club fitting, practice facility management
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, early mornings and evenings
  • Proven ability to:
    • Work well and positively with management and colleagues within a team environment while having the ability to work independently when required
    • Develop strong and positive relationships with all members, key stakeholders, and golf community
    • Exhibit efficient time management skills and prioritize tasks
    • Resolve problems calmly and professionally, using good judgment and strong interpersonal skills
    • Understand member and guest service needs and provide anticipatory service

Desirable:

  • LPGA and/or PGA Class A Member or at least PGA PGM Level 1 Status
  • Experience operating Trackman, SAM Putt Lab, CoachNow, BodiTrak, or similar
  • Well versed with Golf Genius Software
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent
  • PGA and golf industry certifications
  • Operation 36 experience and background
