What to Wear for Your First Golf Lesson

Operation 36

If you’re getting ready for your first golf lesson—congrats! You’re officially starting your journey into one of the most rewarding sports out there. But before you step onto the course, you might be wondering… What am I supposed to wear?

Good news: You don’t need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. Here’s what most beginners wear and what we recommend to keep things simple and comfortable.

A Collared Shirt or Polo

Most golf facilities prefer that players wear a collared shirt. A polo is perfect. It’s breathable, casual, and gives off “I’m learning golf” energy without trying too hard. T-shirts are usually fine for practice facilities, but check ahead if you’re unsure.

Athletic or Golf Pants (Or Shorts)

You don’t need official “golf pants” to get started. Comfortable, flexible athletic pants or joggers work great. If it’s warm out, athletic or chino-style shorts are totally fine. Just avoid jeans or anything too baggy or restrictive.

Sneakers Work Just Fine

No golf shoes? No problem. A pair of flat-bottomed athletic sneakers will give you enough grip for your first few swings. Once you get more comfortable, you can always upgrade to golf-specific shoes down the road.

Bonus: A Hat and Sunscreen

Op 36 Premium Hats

If you’re practicing outside, a hat or visor helps keep the sun out of your eyes—and don’t forget sunscreen. Golf lessons can last an hour or more, and a little sun protection goes a long way.
