When it comes to building a thriving junior golf program, Operation 36 Coach and Ambassador Monica Sanders is leading the way! Lessons in structure, engagement, and long-term growth from a coach making waves in Northern California.
When Monica Sanders, LPGA, first stepped into her role as Head Golf Instructor at Orinda Country Club, she knew she wanted more than just a full class schedule. She wanted a program that built strong players and strong relationships.
Easier said than done.
“I didn’t just want a busy program,” Monica says. “I wanted one where players actually grew and stick with it. That meant finding a structure that made sense and could scale.”
That structure came in the form of a player development model called Operation 36. And it’s quietly transforming how she runs every aspect of her program
For Monica, one of the biggest shifts was realizing how much clarity benefits not just the coach, but also the families.
Through a scheduling system that maps out class objectives, players and parents can see exactly what’s being covered and why. That shared roadmap leads to better buy-in, fewer questions, and more meaningful practice between sessions.
"It helps everyone follow along,” Monica explains. “And it keeps me on track too. I know I’m building something bigger than just this week’s class.”

Another insight Monica has embraced is how to keep players motivated, even when they’re struggling to score. She rewards players who are consistently showing up, engaging with the resources, and making an effort to improve, even if they haven’t reached the top of the leaderboard yet.
"Gamification is powerful, but only if you recognize more than just the ‘winners.’ It’s the kids who are putting in the work behind the scenes who need the boost most.”
The benefits of building a structured, developmental program have gone beyond just happy players. Monica has seen growth in her own coaching skills, a more efficient and sustainable schedule, and a program that keeps golfers coming back - driving consistent growth season after season.
“If you want to be successful with Operation 36, use the tools. Don’t just run the classes. Run the program. Use the app, highlight the leaders, and recognize the effort of those still learning. When players know the coach is invested in their growth, they rise to meet the challenge.”
