Director of Instruction at Dubsdread Golf Academy in Orlando, Steve Brewer, PGA, has grown his coaching business to serve 1,000+ Adults and 110+ Juniors each year. His secret? Systemized instruction, a strong team, and a relentless focus on player development.
After nearly two decades of running a successful player development program, Brewer began to notice a recurring frustration: Students were learning individual skills, but they weren’t turning those skills into better scores.
“We’d teach solid fundamentals, but when they went to play, there was a disconnect. They could get near the green quickly, but it took 8 more shots to finish the hole.”
The missing piece was structure. By organizing learning experiences more intentionally and aligning them with on-course goals, Brewer saw immediate improvement in both outcomes and retention.
Running a program of this size doesn’t happen by accident. Brewer and his team now manage:
“You just can’t do this alone anymore. Coaching at scale requires a system, a team, and regular communication. I meet weekly with our staff to keep everything aligned.”
His advice for coaches wanting to grow?

It’s not just instruction that keeps Brewer’s students returning year after year; it’s the experience.
“Whether they’re 5 or 80, people want to feel like they’re improving and part of something. We look for ways to ‘touch’ our players beyond class—whether that’s feedback, celebrating progress, or just acknowledging their hard work.”
Creating community doesn’t require a massive budget. It requires intentionality, systems that support feedback and recognition, and a team aligned on shared goals.
Brewer often mentors coaches who are looking to grow their programs or revamp their approach. His biggest insight?
“Don’t just bolt new ideas onto what you’re already doing. Sometimes you need to flip the model. Build a system first, and then let your ideas fit into that. Ultimately, our job is to help people become golfers—not just take lessons. When you make that shift, everything changes. Your impact grows. And so does your business.”
